IMPORTANT NOTICE
FACTS, INFORMATION & INDEPENDENT ADVICE
Due to the amount of confusing information and advice surrounding the 'damp coursing' industry, we have listed below a number of contacts for independent consultation.
As the cost of all trades involved in damp coursing works can become high, and as this industry has a history of companies liquidating or changing names to avoid their obligations, it is important that you assure yourself of the long standing credibility of the company you employ. Very few companies are affiliated with any Building Association or are Registered Building Practitioners, This is a requirement for obtaining insurance accepted by the Building Control Commission above and beyond the companies own guarantees.
Some 'Damp Coursing' systems employed in Australia are not in adherence with INternational Codes of Practice and there is no Guarantee to the quality of materials used. It is important that the company you contract guarantee both the product and labour for damp coursing and also the replastering.
The replastering procedure involves the use of salt retardant additives which control the drying out rate. It is important that the correct amount of plaster be removed and replaced. Companies not prepared to carry out all necessary works will always have someone else to blame should there be a failure.
There are water repellants available in Australia generally used as surface treatments for masonry to provide resistance to weathering. Used as an injection solution for damp coursing, they do not provide a barrier against salt damp after 7 to 8 years. The only damp coursing products available that give a permanent barrier to salt migration are imported from Europe. These products are specifically formulated as permanently salt resistant and were developed in the countries where these damp coursing systems were originally developed.
Damp Guard use only the imported products for blending their injection solution which has resulted in many years of perfect results.
